Steelmaking sludge is one of the bulk solid wastes generated by steel enterprises. The sludge from steelmaking converters contains usable components such as iron (TFe ≥ 50%), carbon, and fluxes. When compressed into pellets, it serves as a good raw material for iron or steel slag agents. From the perspective of a circular economy, it should be fully recycled to achieve effective circulation of steelmaking by-products, reduce steel material consumption, and lessen environmental burden.
1. Advantages of JS sludge pellet binder:
1) Low addition amount: Add about 3% by proportion to the sludge-iron skin mixture, where 1 ton of binder can produce 30 tons of finished pellets.
2) Convenient to use: This binder is in powder form and can be added directly to the material; just mix with water for even consistency and press into pellets.
3) Excellent performance: Single forming with a forming rate of over 90%, wet pellets 2 meters high won’t break apart upon falling, and can be naturally dried or dried in an oven, achieving a strength of about 1200N after drying.
4) No reduction in grade: The binder does not contain harmful elements for steelmaking such as silicon, aluminum, sulfur, and phosphorus, maintaining the pellet quality without increasing any ash content.
2. Usage method:
1) Evenly add the dry powder binder into the material according to the ratio; the amount of binder added varies based on the material’s particle size and specific surface area.
2) Moisturize the material, spraying an appropriate amount of water based on the humidity of the material. It is important to control the humidity, as excessive moisture can lead to sticking to molds and reduced pellet formation rate.
3) Use a roller mill to mix evenly, then convey via a belt to the pellet press for pressing.
